Abyssal Abundance

A beyond the shore boardgame
One Ocean, One Future

Abyssal Abundance is a board game developed as part of "Beyond the Shore", an ongoing oceanic artistic research and performance project from If Times Limited. This project focusses on inter-Asian and sea-based perspectives on myths, historic livelihoods and speculative futures.
Abyssal Abundance is an attempt to imagine how we can resist colonial-capitalist logic through mythwork, resistance, care and repair. The game is set in the near future where MORI, a fictional international mining corporation, has started mining polymetallic nodules from the seabed. The players start out as a team of humans trying to resist the mining operations and re-establish the connection with nature. You gather a network of beyond-human companions, forming the One Ocean Alliance in order to protect the ecosystems of the deep-sea. Will you be able to restore the connection with nature before MORI destroys the ocean floor and toxifies the only ocean we have? And how much damage will be done, before it all comes to an end...?
